Delegations:
- S/Sgt. Steve Hurst attended the meeting to provide information about staffing and mentioned that the next quarterly report will be received by the end of the month. He also discussed that he would like communication between the District and the RCMP to ensure all needs are met. He also encouraged people to report crimes because the RCMP keeps track of the stats.
- Dennis Richardson made a presentation to Council on communication between the District and the public. Informed residents will likely participate more if they are informed of policies, changes, bylaws, etc. He provided examples of where there was no communication and wants Council to provide information to the public in a timelier manner.
- Sami Istifo attended to request another extension to March 2023 to remove the old dwelling from his property at 112 Marine Point. Council upheld their decision from July that the dwelling must be removed.
- Wally Olmstead attended to request 10, 10×20 seacans to be placed on the northeast corner of his property at 202 Cuelenaere Drive. Seacans are permitted as a discretionary use and property owners within a 75-meter radius will be notified of the proposal and will be able to express their concerns at the Public Hearing on October 12, 2022.
Bylaws:
- Bylaw 17-2022 Establish Lakeland Recreation Board a bylaw to provide for entering into an agreement to establish a body corporate to manage, operate, and organize recreation services was given second and third readings.
Reports, Discussion, and Actions:
- Building/Development monthly permit report was received.
- Public Works provided an update on Trees, Beaches, Roads, Equipment, Gravel and Dust Control, Drainage, Transfer Station, and Lagoons.
- Protective Services provided their monthly report and provincial and inter-agency updates. Authorization to order an LDPS vehicle and Upfit for 2023 was given.
- Administration provided an update. Administration was directed to look at other resort communities in regards to fireworks. The Drafted Audited Financial Statement was submitted.
- Discussion on permitting Golf Carts was held and LDPS is to look further into the legalities of it.
