The District of Lakeland is experiencing an extended power outage, along with the surrounding area. As of now there is no scheduled time of repair. The office is open, running on the generator.
There is no immediate threat to Lakeland area from the fire northeast of Prince Albert (Prince Albert, 21PA-Cloverdale Forest Fire). Travel is not recommended, and there is smoke over Highway 2.
Cell Phone Service
Please reduce unnecessary cellular and data use until power has been restored to the whole Lakeland area.
It is important to keep our cellular service up for EMERGENCY communications. Heavy cellular and data usage (such as hotspotting, streaming video, etc.) causes additional strain on the communication systems.
Food Waste
Public Works has made arrangements for a couple extra bins to be brought to the transfer station to deal with food waste that people may be throwing away due to the extended power outage. Please bring food waste straight to the transfer station, do not put it in your weekly collection bins.
The Transfer Station is located at the former landfill at Emma Lake Landfill: Off Hwy #263, S.W. of Sunnyside Beach. The bins are located about half a kilometer off of the highway, the first left turn after the closed gate at the shop. The hours currently are 9-4 every day except for Tuesday and Thursday. They will be open Monday on May-long-weekend.
