Strategic Plan

The District of Lakeland encompasses a large area of attractive lakes and forest in central Saskatchewan, popular with seasonal visitors and permanent residents alike. In order to effectively plan for the future of the region, the District initiated a Strategic Planning program, culminating in this document – the District of Lakeland No. 521 Strategic Plan. Strategic Plans are based on a community vision and a set of ideals or goals developed by community members through a District of Lakeland Council and Staff workshop exercise. Strategic Plans contain initiatives, objectives, timelines, and responsibilities for each of the central ideals or goals.

2013 Aerial Spray Program Against Eastern Spruce Budworm

In the spring of 2013, the District of Lakeland and the Ministry of Parks Culture & Sport (PCS) contracted BioForest Technologies Inc. to design and conduct a white spruce aerial spraying program against eastern spruce budworm.

Spruce Bud Worm Report

The Spruce Budworm is considered the most serious pest of the fir and spruce forests in North America. A substantial outbreak of the Spruce Budworm occurred in Saskatchewan between 1996 and 2005. In 2011 damage was noted to white spruce near Emma Lake and the highest amount of defoliation was sustained in the Murray Point area. The District of Lakeland Environmental Advisory Committee has prepared this report to assist the District Council as it considers the question of whether or not to implement a spraying program for the Spruce Budworm within the District of Lakeland.
